What Is A Freelance Web Developer’s Salary?

We start it off with how much the designer charges for each project. We asked, “How much does the average project cost your customer (USD)?”

We have designers who charge anywhere from $250 to less than $20,000 per project depending on the content provided and their experience level etc.

(And nowhere near the limit of what you as a business owner are willing to pay for a website!)

On the other hand, if you’re trying to compete on price, keep your prices too low in your hopes of outdoing other designers and getting more customers, there’s always someone cheaper!

Ways To Find Freelance Web Design Jobs Online

So it is better to price packages based on value! I love what great designer and former student Mariana Durst shared about deciding what to charge as a web designer:

The $2,500-$5,000 price range is the most common price range right now, closely followed by the $1,000-$2,500 crowd.

Next, we compared the billing of web designers and how many years of experience they had as a freelance web designer.

We can see that most new designers in the survey charge $2,500 or less depending on the project.

Those with at least 1 year of experience invested more on average in the $2,500-$5,000 ballpark, and designers with 2+ years consistently hit that $5,000+ benchmark!

With each passing experience, we can see that membership in the coveted $10,000+ Project Club is slowly growing! However, what I didn’t expect was that the designers in our 5+ years of experience category actually had fewer people in the $5K+ arena.

(i.e. instead of charging $5,000 for a two-week website project, they now offer VIP designer daily rates of $1,000).

Looking at our self-taught staff (web designers who have invested less than $500 in professional development or attended any paid courses or programs), 73% are still charging clients less than $2,500 per web design project.

Compared to those who invested $5,000 or more in learning the skills they need to succeed in their web design business. Only 38% fell below the $2,500 range.

For those considered “self-taught,” less than 2% of designers charged more than $5,000 per project, while more than 23% of our highest-investing group was in the high-end designer price range.

I was very curious to know how the responses differed between designers who charge a premium price and those who do not yet charge a premium price.

Most experts will tell you that the fastest way to consistently attract legitimate paying customers is to become niche, that is, to focus all of your marketing and packages on attracting a specific type of customer rather than trying to appeal to your customers’ web search more broadly. So that you don’t miss all the inquiries when you first start. .

Of the designers who charge less than $5,000 – only 14% of them seem committed to being niche.
